This week, when Apple Inc (AAPL) introduced its triple-camera, the iPhone marketing Chief Phil Schiller waxed on about device’s ability to create perfect photograph by interlacing it together with the eight separate exposures that captured before the main shot, called a feat of “computational photography mad science.”
Phil Schiller said, while describing a feature called “Deep Fusion”, it will ship later this fall. “When the user press the shutter button, it takes a one long exposure, and after that in just one second the neural engine analyzes the fused combination, of both the long and short images, and choosing the best among them, by selecting all the pixels, and then pixel by pixel going through about 24 million pixels, for optimizing the detail and low noise,”
This was a sort of technical deviation that in years past, but it might have been reserved for design the chief Jony Ive’s narration of a precision aluminum milling process, to produce better iPhone’s clean lines. Schiller being the company’s most enthusiastic photographer, specifically in this case, was getting his highest praise on custom silicon and the artificial intelligence software.
