Bob Iger, Disney CEO, has officially resigned from Apple’s board of directors, amid the continuing streaming wars, ahead of the launch of Apple TV+ service.
SEC filing of Apple gives the details of announcement made by Apple, in which the company also disclosed that the Iger had stepped down on September 10 that coincidentally was in the same day launch, details for Apple TV+ were also announced.
Both the tech firms, Disney and Apple are currently in process of launching their own streaming services, due in November, that will further flooding the global streaming market.
On November 12, Disney is set to debut the Disney+ for just $7.99/month while Apple TV+ will be launched earlier on November 1 for only $8.99/month.
Iger wrote in a statement that ”I have the utmost respect for Tim Cook and his team at Apple Inc and for my fellow board members,”
“Apple Inc (AAPL) is one of the world’s most admired companies that known for the quality and the integrity of its products and its people, and said that he is forever grateful to had served as a member of the company’s board.”
Apple Inc said Iger was “exemplary” while responding via official statement, and called him a “role model for an entire generation of business leaders”.
Apple said that for nearly eight years, Bob has been an exemplary board member, and for as long as he has led Disney, he has also been one of Apple Inc’s most trusted business partners,”
“While we will greatly miss his contributions as a board member, we respect his decision and we have every expectation that our relationship with both Bob and Disney will continue far into the future.”
Iger was also the good friends with Apple co-founder late Steve Jobs, and according to a 2014 Fortune report, Steve Jobs personally requested that Iger take his place on the board after his death in 2011.
