“FaceApp” is a Russia based app that actually applies filters to the photos, that can makes users older or younger. This type of app first time went viral in 2017, but now it’s catching attention on different way, as the users have been surprised to learn that that FaceApp’s creators are harvesting metadata from their photos.
The celebrities across the internet took notice of it, and were sharing interestingly sharing what they would look like, in their golden years. From the Jonas Brothers and Terry Crews, everyone is using the FaceApp, and the Dwyane Wade and Drake took to app to try on a few decades. There are countless other people on Internet, who took the opportunity to age themselves, and they are looking at the results.
The retooled version of FaceApp returned to the public consciousness with old age filter but the app from Russian tech company Wireless Lab, also loaded down with the privacy concerns.
“They ask for way more rights than they need to offer the service to you, [they] can remove the data from any effective legal protection regime, share it with almost anyone, and retain it indefinitely,” he said. “It is impossible to tell from this what happens when you upload it, that is the problem. The license is so lax. They can claim you agree they can send to wherever they like to whoever they like, and so long as there is some connection, [they can] do a lot of things with it.”
Joshua Nozzi, who is the App developer, also warned that FaceApp can upload photos beyond the ones that you have given the direct access and other security experts have questioned this claim.
